With crisp daytime temperatures just a few weeks away there is no better time to start planning a weekend Fall hike.
Not that I need an excuse to go hiking. And then Winter is not far behind. Do you plan for some Autumn hikes ?

Getting lost is a way to find yourself.
doing the Pinnacle in Nov. then Cabela's for Christmas shopping.
I'm so confused, I'm not sure if I lost my horse or found a rope.
Today was perfect, did a 12 mile loop in the gunks with temps this am in the upper 40s,got to the mid 60s in the afternoon..
Doing Max Patch to Hot Springs or beyond during second week of October. Can't wait to get back out there.
My bachelor party this weekend was a 36 mile hike over the weekend. Perfect Fall weather on the divide. We even stayed at a hostel overnight (beer, bbq and talking smack in town. Made the walk back a little,er, fun)

Heading Northeast - hiking Long Trail from Brandon Gap to Camel's Hump Oct. 1-5 followed by AT from Rt. 140 south to Rts. 11 & 30 Oct. 6-8.
After ALDHA Gathering, hiking 109 miles on the Allegheny Trail from Huntersville north to Canaan Valley. I may then head south and hike the southernmost 22 miles of the ALT from where it starts at a junction with the AT on Peters Mountain.
Sarting a SOBO end to end of the Long Trail this Sunday, perfect weather!!!
I try to do an overnight trip once a week until the snow is too deep to gain much elevation. Last year our last backpacking trip was mid October. Then the skis and snowshoes will come out but I will stop spending the night out there.
Planning on a 3 day hike the first weekend in October. Not sure where I'm going yet. Looking forward to trying out some new gear.

Nice early fall day in the Whites of NH. Went to a place called "Icy Gultch" today. About a 7.5 mile loop all together. The mile through the Icy Gultch is a scramble over large boulders, kinda like Mahoosuc notch, but not quite as crazy. It's also the water source for the town of Gorham. I'm closing in on finishing up doing all 104 miles of trail maintained by the Randolph Mountain Club. Only about 10 miles of trail scattered around left to finish.
Thinking about doing some AT in Maine towards the end of the month, as soon as the colors look like thier at peak. Maybe Rt 17 to Grafton notch. I kinda like the Bemis range and Baldpate.

overnight in the Whites this weekend. should be awesome
Autumn hiking in New England=jealous Hikermom. Hoping for a beautiful show of fall colors everywhere this year.

Planning a day trip in the Catskills this weekend, can't do a clueless weekend because I have other commitments on Sunday. (Got some extra vacation time coming, though, it's almost time to start taking Fridays off to use it up.) Won't see much close up in the way of fall colors this trip, most of the planned trip is in the 3500-4000 foot elevation range where it's all balsam and spruce.
I need to find my orange vest pretty soon, and try to stay out of the way of the guys with rifles and sixpacks. (And I'm not talking about their abs. They have beer bellies.) I hike way into the shoulder season, but don't do full-on winter. Once the snow is more than boot-deep, that's it for me. (I'm not equipped for more, and would need some serious refresher training in things like ice axe technique.)
I always know where I am. I'm right here.
Neels Gap to NC line in October, can't wait!
Woods Hole > North in October for 2 weeks, then that Point > North in Nov to try to finish up VA this year
