Default 'Appalachian Trials' by Zach Davis....A MUST Read

Just wanted to say that out of all the books on preparing for an A.T. thru hike, Zach Davis' book, 'Appalachian Trials,' is perhaps one of the most useful! Having done a few sections of the A.T. , I already have experienced many of the emotional/psychological phases Zach discusses in his book. He writes with honesty and humor...this one is not to be missed by anyone considering doing any distance hiking on the A.T. (or any other long distance trail). Well done, Zach!

Agreed....hope the class of 2013 reads this. Explains there is more than just the right gear to successfully complete a thruhike.

Thanx for the heads-up. I'm always looking for a new trail related read.

As the mother of a 2012 thru-hiker, I also think it's a great book for family members and friends to read so they can better understand what their hiker experiences.

+1 on this book. A great read and clearly points out the psychological challenges of a long distance hike in addition to the physical challenges. A book to be read by anyone attempting an AT thru hike or any other long distance hike.

It really is a great book. Not to mention entertaining as hell.
