Speaking of the weather - here's a pic of Buck Mt. Road about a half mile from where the AT crosses. This is about 3 miles north of 19E, just north of the Humps and Roan Mt.
Picked a hiker up here today.

Which makes you also a Trail Angel!I know the hiker's family is also grateful.
Well.. technically I'm a service provider since it was a shuttle. A 70 mile round trip as it were...
Glad I could find him though.. Here's a pic of my foul weather extraction vehicle...
Pic was taken exactly 7 days ago on Unaka Mt. Rd. What a difference a week can make!
I believe you are shuttling myself and two others in a couple weeks. I hope you don't need the extraction vehicle for that trip!

Don't forget the dog! Look forward to meeting you.
good night to be holed up in Overmountain Shelter
Yeah, it's not bitter-bitter cold but it's windy and you can get out of the wind.
I'd rather be in my tent though.
That photo looks similar to when I passed through 3 years ago to the day. We got about 4" of snow for the pleasant walk from Mountaineer Shelter to Mountain Harbour Hostel. Roan got about 6", which I encountered the next morning as I slacked from Carver Gap back to the hostel. It was 10 degrees when I started out, with 40 mph sustained winds and 70 mph gusts over the Balds, but the sky was perfectly clear. What a memorable hike!

Wow...it looks like a typical Wisconsin snowstorm Would LOVE to hike in that...with the caveat that I had my proper gear with me including my neoprene facemask and either goggles or my shielded polarized sunglasses! Nice video of the gap. Overmountain shelter I am sure has some snow blowing in through the gaps as well as some drifting though with those windspeeds not big ones. A place where a nice zero bag, candle lantern, a good book with plenty of fuel for making hot soups, teas and coffee is a must.
Hey 10K,
That video looks just like the day you dropped my buddies and I off there last november to start hiking south. Good thing the trees provided some shelter from the wind till we got to Roan High Knob shelter. Fun times.
