    Sure. That's one situation where I'd want my goretex salomons, but it's doable. I did it near ashby gap after the 2010 blizzard for an overnight on snowshoes. Though these days I'd be more likely to wear my RAT boots for something like that.

    Sure thing.. I'm getting ready to hike the Pinhoti Trail starting January 5th.

    I'll be wearing my Brooks Adrenaline ASR's, merino wool liners, and mid-weight merino wool socks. I'll have my Rocky Goretex socks in my clothing bag in case I need them.

    I'm kind of OCD about my boots and shoes in general, so there's not a chance in hell them babies are freezing.

    Default Thawing out your boots.

    VBL socks all the way when it is below freezing. No moisture gets in the boots so you do not have to worry about it or sleep with them. That is unless it has been raining or snowing. I have an extra long winter bag so I sleep with tons of my gear at me feet. I also use a VBL for my bag.
