Bummer, I had a good stay at the Rendezvous last time passed through there. Guess we'll all have to go cross town and up the hill to the church hostle. At least thier close to Walmart.

There are still a couple of hotels up the hill. They are cheap, but looked nicer than the Rendezvous at least from the outside.

This was a great place. Convenient, owner liked hikers and was helpful. Sad.

Stayed there with Matthewski, Baltimore Jack, Dude, Johnny Thunder and had a killer cookout. Great place for the price. Sad to see it go

It is really sad! I'm glad some of y'all have had such good memories of the Motel. I never stayed there myself but loved having a great place to park my car while doing that section.

So sorry to hear that. I have stayed at that hotel twice and they gave me a shuttle both times. Very nice people running the place. I wish them the very best.

This saddens me. Like many hikers, I stayed at the Rendezvous and received shuttles from the owners. I sure hope their insurance will cover the damage but even if it does, Brenda will have much to deal with and I offer my prayers.

At one point they were thinking of closing it as the pastor retired and no one seemed interested in keeping it open. However, the new pastor or someone else has a renewed interest and it should be open in 2013.

ALDHA is planning a work trip to help spruce up the hostel to get it going, just waiting on a convenient time.

Sorry to hear it. During my thru, I spent the night of my birthday there. My husband drove up from Charlotte to meet me. It was one of the more memorable nights of my hike. :-)

Yeah, sad... I highly recommend... Woods Hole hostel....10 miles before you get to Pearisburg (NOBO) but easy to get to from the trail.

Hey Praha4... I tried to sent you back a message. Your Inbox is full.

I am really sad to hear about this fire. The good people at the Rendezvous always treated me right over the years. From the extent of the damage in the pictures, it's amazing that no one was injured or killed. Hopefully the owners will be able and wanting to rebuild soon.

@Praha4: There are two other motels (actually right beside each other) a little under a mile from the trail; namely, Holiday Motor Lodge and the Plaza Motel. It used to be kind of a toss-up as to whether to stay at the Rendezvous, which was close to the trail but farther from restaurants and the town, or to stay at one of the other two. The Holiday Motor Lodge is pretty big, so hopefully they'll be able to handle more hikers until the Rendezvous gets back up and running.
