Default Sleeping Bag REG vs LONG

I would guess that each brand is slightly different, but if I am 6' 1", and most bags state a REG = up to 72" (6' 0") would I still "fit" in it or would that be so pussing the limit that it is not worth taking a change and just go with the LONG?

    Anyone had any experience?

And I am tossing around either the Sierra Designs DriDown Cal 13 or the Marmot Helium Membrain SB if anyone has any opinions/experience.

WRT Western Mountaineering bags, I'm 6 foot dead even and my past two WM bags were long. I always assumed I NEEDED long because of my height. I checked out a 6 foot Megalite and it is perfect for me. You may just have to try and get an opportunity to crawl into these bags and check out the various lengths in person. Good luck.

A bit over beats a bit short. Usually gets you a little more width, too. I have wide shoulders, so that helps.

If it's a bit over, you can always stuff your clothes in the bottom to fill the open space (open space = space your body needs to warm = you may be chilly in a big bag on a cold night).

I am 6'1" and use a marmot atom regular bag which claims to be for 6' and have never had an issue.

I'm a little over 6'1", and all the regular bags I've tried have been just a little tight top and bottom, when I put the hood up and cinch it down. This, despite the fact that I usually sleep a little curled up.

I'm 5'8" and claustrophobic. I was able to pick up a Big Agnes Deer Park for $139. Maybe a little long for me, but I love all the room

I've gotten regular sized bags before (I'm 6'2"), but having the extra length is more comfortable. The last bag I bought the difference between the two was only 2 oz. I am fine with paying that penalty for the long. If it is a winter bag, I suggest the long as you can place stuff in the bottom you might want to keep warm.

Long bags make fitting in small tents that much more difficult.

Ok, I went with the Western Mountaineering VersaLite 10 degree, long. At 2lb 2oz it was only 2oz more than the 6'0" bag and it is really nice to have that little bit of extra space to move around in!
