: I've always wanted to do it and right now is perfect time-wise for me to do it. My plan is to turn a NOBO ultralight Thru-Hike into a Yo-Yo hike because of the challenge and because there is very little info about it for the AT and I could contribute that experience. I hope to see y'all out there, y'all won't be able to miss me , I'm 6'7", slender, and ya yell Gus (till I get me a trail name) I'll come a runnin.

I'm quitting my job as a landscaper and thru-hiking the AT with my good friend Blake whom I have known since kindergarten. He and I are 23 going on 24. I have never done any hiking but he was sent to an outdoor school when we were in 9th grade so he has hiked it twice and has a lot of exp in hiking the AT. I'm also ordering an arc blast 52 from zpacks and their hexamid 2 man tent. I have the money to go ultralight so I'm going to use it. Thanks for reading my registry

    Trail name: mexbuk-i
Direction: flip-flop. I'll start from Harper's Ferry and head south. Then I'll return to Harper's Ferry and head for Katahdin.
    Estimated start: mid-to-late February (soon!)
Approach trail: I'll start with that easy approach from the ATC headquarters to the trail. By the time I get to Springer I'll probably use the approach (since it will be downhill) to make it easier for my support team to pick me up.
Other: I share Rick d's sentiments... I have all sorts of feelings about the trail right now. I'm hoping to do some good for needy kids in my city while I walk. I have started a blog, which you can find at mexbuki2014.blogspot.com.

    NOBO
Not sure what day I'll be starting, I wait until the last minute to plan these things. And I'll probably do the approach trail again since it's easier logistically and it's what I've always done.

Hello Mountain Squid. My name is Kyle Castillo, or as you may (or may not) remember me, Quinoa. I met you on my first day at the foot of Springer Mountain where you gave to me my first piece of trail magic. We also got the chance to work together again while doing Hardcore. I had the pleasure of working side by side with you on a specific section for two days. I am applying for a trail maintenance job in the Adirondack mountain range and would love o put you down as a reference. I rarely use whiteblaze so if you could emal me at [email protected] it would be incredibly appreciated. I also recently found out about this job and the deadline is February 14th so if you could respond quickly it would be greatly appreciated. I look forward to your response

My plan - just posted 11 entries back - just changed significantly. I spoke to Laurie at the ATC headquarters yesterday and became convinced that starting in Harper's Ferry about now is not a good way to start my AT experience given the brutal winter we've had and the icy condition that the trail up that way is in. I've revised the plan to be a NOBO, leaving Springer mountain late February / early March. I'm not sure on the approach trail yet. I'm going to try to get a three night practice hike in around the southern terminus next week to see what condition the trail is in. Ill include a stop at Mountain Crossings outfitter at Neels Gap to see what changes to my pack items they would suggest.

any additional info that you want the world to know: I have dreamt of doing this for as long as I can remember...it feel so surreal and definitely terrified mostly due to money...but I can't wait. It has been hell the best few months leading into this trip and I can't wait to get out there and breathe the fresh air knowing I am free from the cubicle walls for 6 months!!!
