Heard a rumor this shelter is scheduled for replacement.
Don't know why it would...great views, good water & only 0.3 miles from the summit of Glastenbury & firetower.
Jeff,
This shelter is suffering from a serious case of wood rot. It's scheduled to be rebuilt later this summer, early fall, same location.

Wow! Goodard was built in 1985! I stayed there in 1986 and the views south were excellent. I think they cut the trees below the shelter to help build it. When we stayed there in 2003 the trees had filled in, but you could still see Greylock to the south. We tented due to another section hiker's idea that dogs were welcome, so I did not really notice the condition of the shelter. Twenty years sounds like a short life span though.Originally Posted by Minerva

This is one of my favorite places on the trail.

Minerva,
Thanks for the update on Goddard.
Vermont is really going to have some major projects in the works. I also heard Cooper Lodge on Killington was being replaced in '07. That's a lot of volunteer time!!
