It's already on AT Section Hikers FB page as well, with comments from those who are there.

I'm getting reports from a hiker who is there and was in the parade. She tells me an older man passed police on the shoulder and ran into the parade. Approximately 6 people were injured and two possibly critical. There were 4 medivac choppers on the scene picking up in the ball field and at least one ambulance. Thats all the info I have at the moment.

    Everyone is in our prayers.

As of last May, no. Only Verizon.

Scannerfood on Facebook reports that fifty to sixty “walking wounded” are being treated in Damascus, VA currently after the Trail Days crash... Scannerfood also indicates an unconfirmed source at the crash scene stating that “Elderly man in Cadillac possibly having have a medical emergency lost control at 25-35 MPH and struck pedestrians in the parade.” ... Officials have set up a triage at Damascus Fire Hall, Scannerfood adds. Cell phone towers in the area are being reported as overloaded. Officials are advising the public to use SMS texting, rather than voice, to alleviate the trouble. ******** http://news.lalate.com/2013/05/18/da...s-parade-2013/ ******* https://twitter.com/BHCcastle

All the people I have seen that are tweeting from Traildays are saying the number of injured is more like 6 (not 50 to 60). Also saying that 4 airlifted to hospital. T & P!

    Default Trail Days accident

Just heard that a terrible accident occurred during the thru hiker parade. Apparently a older gentleman had some type of medical issue while driving his Cadillac and drove through the crowd of hikers. As many as 60 of them are injured. Thoughts and prayers go out to them all.

If you can't reach people I understand the cell towers are overloaded (and spotty for certain carriers to begin with). They are suggesting texting rather than calling for now.

Oops - I meant a link to the story. It doesn't have much more information except there's to be a press conference at 6:00.
