I used to live about 10 hours from the trail, but I've now moved so I'm I-have-no-idea-how-far-but-at-least-two-days-drive. Moving further from the trail was something I thought about a lot before moving. But, I now live 75 miles from Yellowstone, and am closer to a couple of mountain ranges. Just for this winter, about 60 or so miles east of Avon, Virginia. This way I can gather with other AT friends at GreenLife Adventure Sports at 9691 West Broad in Glen Allen. It is much warmer than back home at Sugar Grove.
You never know just what you can do until you realize you absolutely have to do it.

Just moved to just outside Blacksburg,VA. Accidentally found an AT crossing on Blacksburg Rd just south of Va 311, now I'm about 10 miles. Life is good!

I love about an hour an a half. I live in Philly, so I just travel an hour and a half up 476 and I have my choice of access points

40 minutes to an hour or 29-44 miles to every trail head in NJ i really have to hit the trail here more often. i only wanted to do NJ on my days off now I'm a section hiker with 725 miles covered on my days off.
