Default Just Curious- How far do you live from the AT?

I'll start... I live 5 miles from the trail crossing in Daleville VA.

Some others already answered this question in the Hikerboy Cafe (great place to chat- btw) I found their answers interesting- soooo how bout y'all? How far do you have to travel to step your foot on the AT? If you already answered in the Cafe feel free to post again here....

    You got it, HM.

As the crow flies I'm really only about 5 miles from the trail but thanks to a mountain and a river (the Potomac) it takes me 15 minutes to get to Weverton Cliffs from my house.

47 miles. Only one hour from Port Clinton. A small sacrifice to get to where you really want to be

I just rechecked and it turns out I'm about ten miles East of Gathland State Park, as the crow flies. I thought I was further than that...

Closest, about 35-40 miles away in Southern Mass. But from Bear Mt, Ct to Bennington, Vt the AT is only about an hour drive for me.

Stright line, about 3.5 miles. By trail about 4.5. I have to climb up the side of Mt Adams to intersect the AT and it's about a 1/4 mile road walk to get to the trail head from here...

27.5 miles driving from the approach trailhead to my maintenance section, but longer in the event of artillery fire. A few other trailheads might be slighly closer.

If you allow for the full road easement, you might even be closer

Google Maps tells me that I live 1,054 miles from the closest point on the AT at the footbridge over I-70 near Hagerstown, MD. Drive time is 16 hours and 18 minutes.

I keep moving west, making it ever harder to get to central Maine and to finish my last two sections! My drive time to Rangeley is 23 hours to cover 1,459 miles; which is why I'm flying for these trips nowadays.
