    Default Bly Gap trail

Question about the .9 mile Bly Gap trail, just north of the GA/NC border: The Trails Illustrated map shows a gate on the road that leads into Bly Gap trail. If this gate is closed, or if the road past it isn't driveable, then I'd have to walk about 1.5 miles on road, then .9 miles on Bly Gap trail to access the AT. How good is the road (I have a SUV)? Is the gate typically open? Thanks in advance ...

I've never done it. I've driven up to Blue Ridge Gap a little south of Bly.
I'm not really a hiker, I just play one on White Blaze.

If you are asking about access to Bly Gap on a trail other than the AT, it's been discussed many times before. I believe there is no direct road access to this point. It seems like there used to be, but road/trail is now undrivable?

the gate is locked and the sign says it will remain so for purposes of game conservation and vegetation renewal. the last .5 miles of that trail is crap.

The road is fine to walk. I don't think you can drive it now. I have come down off the AT from Bly Gap to this area and it is a nice hike down... BUT Going up would be crazy! The trail is not marked well at all. You have to really know logistics and techniques to follow. Be careful and follow the stream.
