    Default Paragraph break in posts?

A really dumb question I'm sure, but how does one insert paragraph breaks into a forum post? The normal method (hitting the enter key) does not seem to work for me. I'll do it now: [I just hit enter key] see, no new paragraph. I can't find anything among the various function keys above (inserting tables, columns, bullets, left/center/right align, etc but no paragraph break). I'm using Internet Explorer if that makes a difference. I'm sure I'll feel really stupid when someone gives me the answer. Thanks!

I was working out some other technical issues the other day and was using one IE window and one Firefox window when I noticed this specific issue. I stopped using IE a few months back and switched to Firefox because there were some problems with posting replies that I couldn't pin down either. Replies kept hanging and therefore I kept losing them.

Might be an easy solution, but it may be more of a browser issue.

The problem is because for some reason you're not composing in HTML.

    Here's what I do when composing on a Kindle, which does not support HTML;

Line break: < followed with no space with the letters br, followed with no space by >. (I can't type it exactly like that here because the browser will interpret that ss a line break and ratchet down a line, but you won't see it.)

Paragraph break: Do the line break twice.

Yep, that's why I switched to Firefox.

Now that I know it's not just me, I won't worry about it. Thanks.

I have this problem come and go. I googled up a solution.

Try clicking the first button in the formatting bar immediately above where you enter yout text. It's the one with A/A.

I no longer remember the explanation of what the e reason is, but it works.

I do get the hanging reply issue in IE sometimes, and it requires closing and reopening the tab, losing the post. The likelihood of it occurring is directly proportional to how much thought and effort I put into the post.

If I think of it, I will occasionally copy and paste the text into something like notepad, so I can easily repost it. When I have done that, I have seen the line breaks disappear upon pasting it back into here.

I don't know what that icon does but it just fixed a different problem I was having on my phone. That problem was I could not get my keyboard to appear while responding to a thread or PM. I will check this on IE too. It may need to be turned on there as well.

IE10 (built into Win8) is so new that many websites break.

May want to use IE compatibility mode if using IE 10.

Dogs are excellent judges of character, this fact goes a long way toward explaining why some people don't like being around them.

I run into that on one of my computers and have gotten into the habit of using a shortcut. This only works if you are using a full keyboard with a separate number pad w/ number lock on.

Yes, the A/A button works, and works well, IF you're composing on a WYSIWYG capable computer. The break HTML code that I mentioned before is a fall back if you're writing on a less capable device, like and earlier generation Kindle, as I often do.

the most consistant problem i've run into on this forum, i'll type a comment in this box, then click post, and it simply freezes up, i reload the page and restore saved content and sometimes it works and sometimes it hangs again. i've taken to writing my longer comments in notepad, then cut/paste them here so that i don't lose my train of thought. but when i do cut/paste, i lose all paragraph breaks

Try using WordPad instead of Notepad. Even if you don't save the file, Notepad simply doesn't have the formatting capabilities you need to do what you want.
