Today I finally completed hiking the last 0.7 miles of the Randolph Mountain Clubs 102.6 miles of trails. It only took 3 years
With 70 different named trails all going in different directions, crossing each other or simply dead ending onto a non-RMC trail, it's the ultimate traveling salesman problem to figure out how to do them in an efficent maner without too much back tracking. As it is, you got to hike about 150 miles to complete the 100. Some of these trails are quite insane, like the climbs out King Ravine. All three of them.
The RMC 100 challenge was devised as a celebration of the RMC's 100th birthday back in 2010. Someone realized that the club maintained about 100 miles of trail so the challenge was born. I suppose since there is actually closer to 103 miles of trail, it's approperate I finished in 2013.
Anyway, it was a lot of fun, although painful at times to do all these trails. A lot of them I hadn't been on since working trail crew in the late 80's and some I had never gotten on before. Many of them I have hiked countless times. This is after all, my back yard.
Okay, on to the next item on the bucket list, complete the NH 4000 footers and New Englands 100 highest.
