Knoxville to Fontana Dam

Looking at doing a section hike in the Smokies next month and will likely book a shuttle from Knoxville to Fontana Dam the morning of 5/8. It's $165 for one or two so if anyone would be looking to share a ride, let me know.

This seems like a fair price. The drive takes well over an hour if my memory serves me correctly. The road that leads to Fontana is called "Tail of the Dragon," and is world famous among motorcycle and high performance car drivers for it's never ending curves.

its more than an hour drive....

i've found (and i make one stop for bathroom) that it takes about 2 and a half hours......

give or take an hour just to get to tail of dragon.......give or take an hour to get through tail of dragon depending upon traffic.......and then from deals gap to the dam is about half hour or so.....

and, unless traffic is thick, i can fly through tail of dragon as i've driven it a ton of times.....

Where in Knoxville makes a bit of a difference. Google says 66 miles / 1 hour, 40 minutes from Knoxville to Fontana Dam - but without knowing where in Knoxville you want to be picked up you can't just say a number. $110 or $165 might both be fair prices, depending.

Big difference between north Knoxville and south Knoxville, especially if you want to leave between 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM during the week to Fontana dam.

yeah.....true that......im a north knoxville (fontana city) so that adds about 20 minutes for ride give or take.......

and either price seemingly is fair.....

cause you have to factor in the ride back as well....
