    Default In Idyllwild

11:30 am just rolled into Idyllwild, first week in the bag. Still getting adjusted to the desert. I'm moving towards hiking 12-12 and taking off from noon to midnight. The first few days if was hot as blazes, yesterday it snowed until noon though - flurries.

Water so far has been good, caches have been spot on.

The desert is amazing! Loving the PCT so far!

Hiked into Big Bear last night and am taking my first zero day. Got a ride back to the trail at 11 in the morning. All going great but still looking for the elusive rattler - I'm the only person that hasn't seen one.....

I got my wife to sit down and watch the 2012 pct class video the other night and at the first sight of a rattler she said "nope! you can hike alone"

I never see snakes. Even when people just a few hundred yards behind me talk about seeing one between us. When I did the PCT, I think I saw 9 total which is more snakes then I'd seen in my entire life (before or since). The first one by Campo, CA and the last one just after Etna, CA. Other people on the trail talked about seeing double digits including high double digits. The most anoying ones were the ones that rattled AFTER you already passed them. They'd freak you out for no reason.

Stayed at the best western at I-15 last night to sit out a quick moving cold front. Should be in Wrightwood early tomorrow!

Camp Wrightwood is a donations-requested bare-bones church hostel (think The Place in Damascus) in Wrightwood that's not advertised anywhere, although you may have heard of it through the grapevine by now. End of Elm Street in Wrightwood, about a 10-15-minute walk from the town attractions.

I figured the PCT would be agreeable to ya. Good coffee shop w/ baked goods to gnosh on the front deck in Wrightswood. Could not get in touch with anyone affiliated w/ the church there though. Have a great hike 10-k.

All good. Relaxing at the best western in tehachipi. The hike between here and Hikertown was brutal! Hot as blazes!

Hikertown reminded me of a scene shot on a back studio lot for an old western movie or perhaps Psycho. It(they) was(were) eccentric.

Saw a pic that 10-K took from Whitney earlier today.

When I hiked in 2009, I arrived at Kennedy Meadows a full month later then 10-K. He should have no problem finishing before September if he wants to. Congrats on making good time. Though the fall color I saw in late September in Washington was a major highlight of my hike.
