Default Free sleeping pad, just pay shipping

Just saw this on BPL and picked one up for myself... $12.99 shipping and pad is free. Figured it's worth a shot for $12.99 - worse case I'll have the beginnings of a putting green in my gear room.

    R value of 21, weighs 9 oz for the 1/2" x 24" x 77" version.

    http://www.birdieball.com/scripts/pr...FShp7AodhH4Aig

    From the website:

-Textured Open Cell top surface is soft and prevents sleeping bag movement on higher friction top soft surface.
    -R-value 21 unaffected by humidity
-Prevents 97% of radiant heat transfer
    -Vapor barrier Prevents condensation
-Does not promote mold or mildew

Sorry, there is no possible way a 1/2" mat can have an R value of 21, I don't care what it's made of. Physically impossible. Big red flag.

Might make a great putting green though! good luck.

A putting green would be nice if I played golf.

For $12.99 I figured I'd give it a go.. I saved that much at Walgreens yesterday buying bacon and sugar!

Looks like it would be a great deal for those who do some cold weather camping, thanks 10-K.

I think that they meant to claim 2.1. Is there any pad out there with a 21 r value?

After some goings back and forth and a phone call from a guy on BPL they've changed the R value on the website from 21 to 3.6..

But.. the consensus is that it's 2.1(5).

Dogs are excellent judges of character, this fact goes a long way toward explaining why some people don't like being around them.

These must be really "great" pads as someone left a similar one behind at Jerry's Cabin shelter this past January. I cut it into pieces to stop drafts and snow blowing in around the rafters. Also made some seat covers for chunks of wood for camp furniture, which BTW ended up in the fireplace half burned.

Here's my 2 cents. These companies probably get a bulk discount shipping rate. So IMO they pay $3 shipping and still make $10 profit. About the only thing free these days is air and soon someone will be selling that for "shipping only" costs.....

Since it's open-cell foam, it IS a big flat sponge. That thing is going to soak up water every day. In the morning, you'll be able to wring out the water. Pass.

    Live and learn!

I'll put it on the shelf with all the other stuff I've bought over the years that didn't pan out.

10-K My shelf has started to creep into a whole room! DW forced me to go in there and find enough "extra" stuff for a couple of the kids to go out for the weekend and I found enough for 4 complete sets (except for one tent. Only had three...sigh...). But I am longingly looking at the big agnes copper spur though! and REI is doing a 20% tent sale right now.

10-K, I just thought you were half jokin about this pad...anyway, I like Rolex's idea, I have some stuff as seconds for loners to friends.
