Default Where can I find down?

    Hi

I have a great down jacket that I tore and lost some of the filling for. I only need a small amount of down. Looking to buy an 1oz (or up to 3 oz if it isn't sold anywhere as just 1oz) to fix this jacket. Does anyone know where I can buy this?

I would greatly appreciate any input or suggestions.

I was in a thrift store the other day and saw some down jackets for a buck a piece. Thought then that might be a way to MYOG by getting the down out of them.

The bags they use are nice. Here is a video using their bags from one guy that will work well. Wardrobe optional...

Trust me...it is worth the extra .50 per ounce not to have to weigh it out yourself.

I've got some extra from an old sleeping bag, 800 fill, you're welcome to it, if you live close to Denver you can stop by and pick it up.

It just occurred to me, I could mail it to you for the cost of a stamp, and no, I don't need the 45 cents back. PM me if you want it.

Down comforters offer a lot of material.

My gripe with a comforter as a source is that all too often they are manufactured using a lower fill powered down or the fill power is unknown along with a significant feather content. Quality comforters cost as much as quality sleeping bags and I have a strong aversion to salvaging someone else's used bedding .

I made a down quilt and bought my down from www.featheredfriends.com. They make excellent products and have really nice down. I used 900fp.

    *Facepalm* That was just bad.

If you REALLY want some down try here http://www.downlinens.com/products/premium-washed-down Yes, they sell Down by the Pound, and in different lofts as well, mind you more lot means more money, and you can get it treated against water as well. I plan on getting a pound of this stuff because I want to make my own top quilt and underquilt for when I make my own hammock system.

Questoutfitters.com has 900 power fill and have been treated to be water repellent they have it inventory inconsistently, but when they do its a great product, hard to find. When I was shopping for it (this summer) I think it was cheaper than on thru-hiker.com

I second DownLinens. Probably the best price and last I checked you can use a 10% off code if you sign up for their email flyers. The downside is it is only by the lb but really cool that they offer different fill powers and a water resistant treatment.
