Default Kallin's Dog vs the kids complaints?

Just wonder if the kids or the dog caused hikers more complaints?

    http://kallinfamily.com

A blog you must read! Great parents! Great Dog! Great Kids! Sorry haters! They won!

Did the well behaved dog cause more problems with hikers than the kids.

It seems the kids would get up at all hours making sure they didn't miss following their favorite thru hikers. Cartwheel and Robin Hood were the true masters of the AT! Including my 3rd favorite WIRED. Sorry Wired.

Seems some dog haters here? Would it bother you hikers if a brought a few pit bulls from South Florida that killed a few kids and adults with me? Sorry a freindly dog scarers you!

Well with all the dog complaints by some members in recent threads it seems the kallin's dog didn't cause many problems?

Did you read or follow the Kallin's blog Lone Wolf? One of the best I've read! I feel these blogs give me a great amount of info. When one is suffering from a thru hiker the gear what they suggest to other means a lot. Including the best dog for the trip!

Sorry you feel that way. One of the best out there. This was the parents 2nd thru hike! Now with young kids and a dog!

Plus hiking with Wired! Triple crown woman solo hiker! Well, she did hike with other thru hikers so guess it doesn't count.

Well thats funny. I stopped many times for the same reason's you quoted but this one was special to me.

Guess one of the few families to hike and finish the AT is normal. NOT!

Can you tell me how many people have thru hiked the trail twice?
Then on the second thru hike had 2 kids younger than 9 and a dog?

Lets not forget they completed the AT faster than most? I mean how many kids under 9 set a goal to do a 30 mile day and complete it?
Just look at how many days they did over 25 miles? 20 plus days being the norm? Rarely sleeping in shelters? Zero days at minimum? Guess you may of only read the first page or two?

Maybe you should read the whole blog. This blog is a great family adventure. One for the ages!

    Just saying….

I'm with LW once you've read a few journals, the same thing different hikers. I'm glad more kids are hiking. I didn't much care for the adults who threw a diaper in the briars behind Jerry's Cabin shelter.
Sleep on the ground, rise with the sun and hike with the wind....

Their dog was extremely well behaved both on and off trail so I doubt there was a since rumble from anyone. When they stay with us in PA their dog chilled in the garage and was perfect. As for the kids, you couldn't talk to them without having your mood improve, they were likely some of the most enthusiastic hikers that I have met.

so, little controversy about kids or dogs.

Matlo - i did read about you you taking them in. Also doing the same for Wired. Someone I think you high respect.

Its amazing in these days that parents can have great kids and a a highly trained dog? Do they really exist?

Well with you're hiking reputation( Much respected by myself) I'll take it as a fact!

    Enough said...

All dogs and kids aren't evil.

No one ever said they were. Unfortunately, they are in the minority. One example of a good dog and good kids does not make up for the many, many more which aren't.
