Default Fuel for Jetboil - Where to Buy?

For those out there with Jetboil stoves: where do you buy the 100g fuel canisters? I've had it with my local Gander Mountain store that only sells the 100g canisters along with the Crunchit recycling tool. I'm not against recycling, but I already have several and don't want to pay twice the price for the fuel. Anyone know of other outdoor stores that sell just the 100g canister?

OK, now I've vented. I feel better.

Thanks for any info you can provide.

Any EMS or REI store or "outfitter" worth the name. Probably also LL Bean.

Heck, even Wally World sells the canister now (the Coleman branded ones) in the right seasons. Note these are NOT the 1lb green propane tanks.

I bought some Primus brand from REI. Had a coupon from another purchase and stocked up. They are $4 or less per 100g can at the store here.

Dick's Sporting Goods has 100g canisters without the tool.

Sadly for the OP it looks like University Heights is about 2+ hours from stores like REI or Bass Pro and an hour and a half to the nearst Dick's Sporting Goods.

Ah..but mail order is your friend!
    http://www.cabelas.com/catalog/produ...ductId=1220857

Looks like JetBoil and MSR ones, too

    http://www.cabelas.com/product/MSRre...RI%3BIK-530385

The optimus ones with S&H (including the $20 hazardous handling fee) comes out to 6.xx per 4 oz canister. Somewhat expensive vs other places..BUT you don't have to do the drive if the places that stock them are 1-2 hrs away. And the price should be, I think, less expensive than the Jet Bolil + crunchit combo?

    Just one idea anyway.

Sorry to hear that. It's gotta be a managerial/stocking thing. Probably not every store has the same things as another store.

Hey, at $5.99 a canister $4.99 at best plus tax plus gas plus time - it is a better deal. Nice find.

You do realize that you can use any brand and don't have to use Jetboil brand fuel?

MSR, Snow Peak, Primus, Coleman and others all work.

I have saved a lot refilling the jetboil canisters using an adapter and the 8oz. cassette style butane canisters. Sam's sell an 8oz 4 pack (32oz total) for just over $5. Be sure to weigh your canisters to prevent over filling.

What is the performance difference between the butane refill and the propane/isobutane/butane mix?

From what I've read, the pure butane has worse colder weather performance. I'm sure you can google it.

Correct. It is one reason you sometimes have to warm up your lighter first before starting a stove.

    Good link: http://campinggeeks.wordpress.com/20...nepropane-mix/

In the hot and humid conditions where this author writes, butane works well.

In the cool mountain air? I suspect not. The cutoff for butane, according to the author, is ~50F.
