I was thinking that when I posted. I'm fearful his knees will hurt the next day!

Oh well, HYOH and all that stuff I suppose.

No worries. He can rest his knees on that long ride back to Kent.

Yes, but you are The Iron Man, L. Wolf! Have you come down Dudley Trail with a full pack as well? Did you have any awareness of your knees on that side of the molehill, sir?

I dunno....going up those steps at the Doyle looked pretty tough....leki poles might have saved a little pain?

We gathered you have yet to encounter a "tough" trail. We know, you are tough. That's presumed by all but newbies who have yet to be introduced to your extreme greatness. No Leki poles, Mr. Wolf, not me!

I really must apologize. I shouldn't have asked such a foolish question. Of course you went down that side with 50+ on your back poleless. How many laps did you swim around Chimney Pond when you got to the bottom?

Sorry, I forgot you don't need maps, names, blazes. It runs from the point of the fishhook to the water on the bottom, north side.

Dudley Trail = Pamola To Chimney Pond

Abol Trail = Thoreau Spring to Abol Campground

Do you think the Dudley Trail is more or less difficult than the Abol Slide Trail or about the same?

I've never done Dudley. Abol is easy. All of Maine is easy.

Then that makes Dudley easy too. It's a long, steep hike down, boulder-hopping all the way as I recall. I'd like to do much more exploring in BSP and Quebec intrigues me. That's about all that excites me anymore.

I do enjoy helping and observing those to whom the A.T. is still new. There's something about the process of discovery and the attendant excitement that satisifies, even if it's someone else for whom the experience is new.

Well, I didn't think either the Dudley or Abol Slide were particularly difficult when I first did them 25-30 years ago. Somehow the last time I did them a couple of years ago, they seemed more difficult.

I blame all those thru hikers. They must have moved some of the rocks to make it more difficult. I can't think of any other reasons.

I feel bad for MS and all the other hikers still out there right now. It's freaking pouring outside. Wet, fallen leaves all over the trail will make for some slippery hiking. Hang in there, everyone. I'm betting he'll summit on the 15th!

It's great that this discussion is going on about how great Maine is and all, but did he make it to the top yet?

actually abol slide is not bad on the knees, because it takes the use of hands and skidding your ass down over huge boulders. It is fun to do though, and it is only about 3.5 miles down.
