Bet that was a tough decision, but probably the right one. Respect, man - I bet after your hike next year you'll still think it was worth it to do it your own way.Originally Posted by mweinstone

and lone wolf had to like him cause any one who belives women are more beautiful in a dress is cool like that. he told me once , any woman in any dress rather than pants, turnes his head a million times faster .and i new we had a winner.he also can exsplaine why women are 400 times more bitchy than they used to be. cause they used to have 10 menstrule cycles in a life and now have 400. due he exsplaines to nursing and pregnancy causing a smaller number of cycles and they were like that more offten back then in the olden days.stuff like this is what he knows about. and he has a good idea of how the dollar will fail and the end will come. hes the type who will end up alive in a mad max world. his head is on straight and hes humble enough.just.

On a personal basis, I have a difficult time with someone who has such strong (odd to me)opinions on women and other subjects. As a hiker, I hope that he is able to overcome things and make it to Katahdin. I think it would change some parts of him...but other parts would need a higher power than the trail to fix. Conventional wisdom would say that he doesn't stand a chance in you know where....with his pack weight, water issues, issues on bacteria and other things. However, he seems determined, and will is a huge part of finishing a hike. He does seem to have that in spades. I don't see how he can make it....but I wouldn't bet against him (not trying to bring back that betting thing).

Maybe the AT will mellow him a bit. There is often a wide gulf between a person's internet personality and his trail personality. From posts here and in journals, it would seem early on MS could not separate the two and was giving fellow hikers the same miserable time in the woods as he has online. But more recently not so much. A kind of Trail Magic all its own may be in the making. Time will tell.Originally Posted by shadesofblue68

Yeah. But that was before he became a thru hiker. There is nothing like attempting a 2,175-mile walk to change one's thinking.Originally Posted by max patch
I hear old MS is a charter member of the He-Man Woman Haters Club.
Becoming and attempting are two different things. Lots of hikers reach Damascus, less make it to Maine.Yeah. But that was before he became a thru hiker. There is nothing like attempting a 2,175-mile walk to change one's thinking.
