    Default Huge increase in ATers this year

    An at-l member is just back from Neel's Gap and reports these northbound numbers:
    on 3/15/03 - 358 hikers
    on 3/15/02 - 280 hikers

    Called and spoke with the folks at Neels Gap(Walasi-Yi) yesterday. According to their records there are 100 more thru-hikers who have signed their register than there were last year at this time.
    The more I learn ...the more I realize I don't know.

    but remember, apparently, last year didnt see a great number for some reason, the numbers were down... so its hard to compare and say they are up..

    "1875 northbound thru-hikers started at springer ... down about 20 percent from 2001" - at trail news nov/dec 2002.
