Or am I just now finding this out...
That Cascade Designs is the parent company of: Platypus, MSR, ThermaRest, SealLine, & Tracks?!
Am I really that slow in putting this together or are there others who are now informed with this post?

Already knew it. I've done some testing for MSR in the past though, so I have been through all that with Cascade Designs.

I knew that it was the parent company and could have named 2-3 of the companies listed. I wouldn't say you were slow. The company appears to market heavier on the "children" and not as one large company.
Now on the other hand don't you do investigative work![]()

Well, yes, it does. One criteria I use to judge a company is the service it provides. Knowing that CD is the parent company of the rest tells me something about the level of service I can/should expect. If I get bad service from one, it may be true of others and I may hesitate before making a gear purchase.Originally Posted by Boston
Do not speak for me - as I am included in all. I did not know CD was the parent company of all the others listed - I had not researched it. I have only dealt with MSR and ThermaRest and received good service from both so further research was not warranted.Originally Posted by Boston
ALHikerGal - thanks for the heads up - now I know who I'll be doing business with if I look into the other brands!
So be it.

I thought everything was already owned by Wal Mart
Yep. REI used to own MSR, too. Most main stream hiking gear name brands are actually owned by large corporations, and almost all the name brand stuff is made overseas.

Jeeze, maybe 16 or 17 years ago I worked a temp job in the shipping department of a company in Lexington, KY named FoamDesign. The made anything and everything styrofoam. Back in the shipping department we had several "factory seconds" foam deer, turkey, etc. that we used to have all sorts of fun with.
Anywhoo, one day they had me package up some "self-inflating camp pads" they manufactured for another company. I don't remember a brand name on them but they look just like some of the early Thermarests I have seen. I wonder if they manufactured them for Cascade? I do remember that they seemed freakin' heavy.

I didn't know that, ALHikerGal. Thanks for posting it.
Maybe I should have elaborated in my first post.... I think like you do HikerJohn... if one company is good to me, then I would probably not even hesitate to work with the others. (just the same as if they had bad service, I wouldnt deal with the others either.)Originally Posted by hikerjohnd
