Unhappy The Ion Versus The Stove Gremlins

I followed the instructions to the max. Could NOT get 2 cups to boil using 1/2 ounce of fresh denatured alcohol.

It was around 45 degrees air and water temp. I tried three days in a row this past weekend. No boil.

    Skidds -----------
It's rude and it angers the stove gremlins.
I did make one mistake, I peeked through one of the holes in the windscreen. I now believe in stove gremlins. It's their fault

After being a little perterbed with the little fellows i resorted to the Hobo elite stove and burned dry twigs.

    Default gremlins hard at work

Those little pesky fellows get around.

Here is a few things that "Scout" has to say on how they have given him a challenge:

They even got over to see "Mark" he has a few things to say also:

I have a theory on how these little fellows are doing these nasty things. I did some tests and checked my dimensions today and have a few things to bench test and I'll have the answer by the end of the week.

One thing I know for sure: Sgt Rock's windscreen should have holes all the way around its base to provide an even distribution of air around the burner. The way it is now, causes the air to draft to the opposite side of the windcreen(the side without holes). The draft is pushing the flame to one side of the pot. At least 1/4 of the pot is not being touched by the flame. I need full coverage for efficiency. I know this because that side of the windscreen is heat scorched. I used a brand new piece of brownand white flashing material. The white side was on the inside of the windscreen.

    The gremlins are gone!!!!!!!!

Reality set in, I'll resolve what I can. Stovies don't quit!!!!!!!

If all else fails, WICKATISE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well that is one solution, I went with the holes the way I did because I use a big honking hole punch and have found with too much air flow to the stove you get too fast a burn - so having holes on one side so you can angle it at the wind based on need has been pretty successful. But I am glad you figured out what was getting you. I'll make sure I add that as a recommendation if a user is having issues. But remember, in the field you often get more air than you do in a controlled test area.

    Default controlled environment

I'm going to create a controlled environment, will use the variable speed transformer pictured on the left to controll the speed of a fan to create a breeze/winds of tornadic force etc. at the touch of the dial. Inside the pyrex/glass globe is an Ion burner. I will be able to do a visual monitoring as the burner progresses through its burn.

But remember, in the field you often get more air than you do in a controlled test area.
Sgt. sir, you meant to say air movement right?

Here is a quick photo of the stuff iwas talking about

And I thought I was the only one to use a Coleman lantern globe as a test windscreen.

I don't feel nearly as pathetic now. Thanks Zelph!

My entire garage, minus 2 cars, is all like that I'm embarrased to say I taught Oops56 all he knows.
