Their order page isn't up yet. I'd research the company thoroughly before buying from them.

I emailed them and got a price list. Have conversed with them about shipping and such. They seem to be on the up&up. I can get 750fp for around $4.69 oz. shipping inc.

I've been thinking about getting some 700 fp down from Feathered Friends. I'd heard you can gte it for $4.00/oz, but I think they only sell that over the phone. Anyone have any experience ordering down from Feathered Friends?

If not I may order it from these guys, depending on how your transaction goes. I need to get some down for a quilt I'm going to make over Christmas break.

I made a quilt last month and had a not so great experience with a cottage supplier here in the US. I got shorted an oz or so. They did make up the diffrence at no charge but, still I found that their advertised fill power to be 100 to 200 cu.in. more than actual.

Ed Speer sells on his website 900 fill down 3 oz for $25. I'm not going to get into if 900 fill down is possible argurement.

OK, i'm not up on the down fill power rating thing, can someone explain it to me? Is it the number of cubic inches that can be filled with an ounce of down? And I would guess that the smaller the feather, the lower the fill power. Or am I way off?

The fill power is the volume in cubic inches that one ounce of down will occupy. I'm not sure how the size of the 'feather' effects the fill power.

the finer the feather (smaller) the higher the fill power. think of trying to fill a box with ping pong balls as apposed to tennis balls. alot more small air spaces with the smaller balls.

Feathers are bad. Down comes in little clusters that don't really have a quill - more like a little puffball. Down clusters are smaller than feathers, but size isn't really important as long as it's a down cluster.

So when the feather/down ratio is higher down, the fillpower goes up. The more feathers you have, the lower the fillpower.

750fp means that one ounce of down will fill 750 cubic inches of volume.

Sure - they just weigh more and don't compress well. A high feather ratio is ok for a comforter on a bed or something...if it gets too high, you might be better off using a high quality synthetic as far as weigh and bulk go. JMHO.

OK, Thanks. Let me see if I have this figured out.....The smaller the down, the higher the fill power, and the larger the down, the lower the fill power.

The opposite. The larger the down plume, the higher the fill power.

Have you actually ordered from them? I came across that link and posted it a while back. I emailed them a few times and never got anything back.

    Arkwater,

I got this site from someone else. I do have a Hungarian Down filled Comforter( 700 FP) that a local shop in Palo Alto, Ca makes. They get their down on the east coast.
