    Default Size of your quilt?

    Hello all!
I'll be making a synthetic quilt to use with my HH. Since I'll have a warm underquilt that comes up the sides I seems I can go a bit narrower for my top quilt. Most quilts I see assume that the user will be under a tarp and need to really "tuck in" to stay warm. More tucking mean more width (and weight).
    Any thoughts?

mine's sized about right for a std twin bed. maybe slightly larger than the bed's top so that it overhangs a few inches on each side. (a few = 4" to 6" maybe?) it's plenty for me to tuck underneath me when sleeping outdoors.

but then i'm using it under a tarp so the usage is different. your reasoning sounds good, but i'd assume you'd have to try it to find out for sure. maybe others have some input?

I can't give you exacgt measurements, but I will say that in my experience you are on the right track. I made a synthetic blanket that is the exact size as my poncho liner. In the hammock it is way to big. I will be taking it apart and cuting it down. The length wise is good, at about 6 inches longer than I am tall. Width wise I will probably go down to 2-2 1/2 feet. It just gets in the way as it is now.

Maybe what you could do is get a regular blanket form home and fold it in half, and maybe clothespin it together. Then get in your hammock and see if it covers in the right spots. That should give you an idea of what size you need. Different size bodies will need more width to cover them, so make it for your body.

It's not the size of your quilt, it's how you use it.

Size does matter.... make sure it measures up.
