Going to do the 100 mile wilderness and have very short gators. Any reason for a longer set? I usually pack them but do not use them. Most of my experience is in the south though. Advise? Best.![]()

When are you going?
Around the 10th of August.
I didnt know there were gators in ME....?
But if you wear gaiters, I think they should protect you from the crocs!

HA!!! Very good. Too much texting. Any true advise?
Not having hiked in ME, I cant say they have a place there or not...
I do happen to hike in low gaiters just about all the time. I cant stand all that little crud (sticks, twigs, pebbles) that get into my shoes!

I wear low gaiters for the spring and early summer but usually in the 100 mile wilderness at this time of year, you wont have alot of underbrush to worry about. If you normally don't get pebbles in your shoes, I wouldn't wear them.

Since I graduated from Florida State and grew up in Tennessee, I hate GATORS in all shaps and sizes!!!!!

I can't speak for Maine. But in FL, VA & the Carolinas my short gaiters have been all I need for most conditions. I say most because there are situations, of course, where I get scuffed up above the gaiters. If I switch to taller gaiters, it will help some, but not all - so I then must switch to full pants...
So I put up w/ a few scrapes in exchange for less heat, and still keep debris out of my shoes![]()
Have fun!
