    Default Airplane over AT

found this on Google maps...check it out...a jet captured by satellite as it crosses over the AT just north of harpers ferry.

ok. I know the smartalecs will point out that it's west of the trail...but who cares.

Wow cool! Do you by chance know of any sites with satellite imagery that will do an overlay of the AT? I am curious to see exactly what I just hiked. It's tough to tell from normal aerial shots since the trail had a lot of tree cover.

I can tell you more about that picture. I scanned 55 miles east to my house, taking into account the length and direction of shadows and the color of the grass I would deduce that this picture was taken midsummer 2006. Also the fact that the F-150 parked in front of my house was sold last Spring and my neighbor traded his above ground pool for a hot tub and gazebo the previous Fall...

I got hooked into Google Earth for hours one day looking for airplanes in flight! They are there! Especially if you look around major airports... takeoffs and those on approach, still airborn. What a way to waste a day!

Hell, ****ting on the moon would probably be the ultimate "wilderness" experience. That would be one fancy space suit.

I scrolled to Annapolis and the year is about right: they were building a new building down the street from me back then, and I can see the construction there.

Funny how clear the jet is, considering its rate of speed

You have to consider, though, that the lens on that satellite is a very high magnification, and the jet is only moving a small amount relative to the ground from the satellite's perspective.

One came down on it in PA too. I'm not sure what year that was.
