I met Moonpie atop Springer Mountain when she started her thruhike on Leap Year Day '04. We spent the first night at Stover Creek Shelter along with my hiking partner Northern Harrier and Wildcat, both of whom also thruhiked that year. I still remember that first morning awaking in the shelter how Moonpie was so enthusiastic, she was practically singing when the sun came up.

She dubbed us the "3 Old Farts" and of course, we were honored.

If anyone's interested, MoonPie's nearly finished with the PCT...sounds like she's having a great time.

This Chattanoogan hopes to follow in her footsteps someday. My last office was right behind the Moon Pie Bakery. When the wind blew right, it smelled nice. When it blew wrong, the smell of the sewage treatment plant wafted over my office.

I met moonpie somewhere in the south on top of some mountain as I sat on some rocks recovering from the climb, she showed up and introduced herself. She has a very funny story of her bout w/ Giardia(sp?) during her AT thru-hike.
