Exclamation Third Annual WhiteBlaze Nashville Winter Dinner - Feb 14, 2009

Third Annual WhiteBlaze Nashville Winter Dinner - Saturday, February 14, 2009

Yes, boys and girls, Valentine's Day 2009! A good excuse to get out and take your Honey to dinner ... AND get to talk backpacking!

    Here's the itinerary:

Noon (or thereabouts) - a hike at Radnor or Warner or wherever someone wants to lead one. Details to be announced if someone volunteers to lead this activity. Bearpaw, you listening?

5:00 - THE MAIN EVENT: Dinner at Ruby Tuesday's next door to REI in Brentwood.

7:00 - Presentation at REI by J.R. Tate, aka "Model-T", 3 or 4 time thru-hiker, and author of "Walking on the Happy Side of Misery" and "The Ghost Whisperers." Model-T will speak on "Chasin' Life With a Hiking Stick."

Questions? Volunteers? Complaints? Anyone needing a place to stay? Anyone offering a place to stay for out-of-towners?

If you need to MapQuest a map or directions to the REI, here is the address (and phone number)--
    261 Franklin Road
    Brentwood, TN 37027
    (615) 376-4248

REI has a new "community room" in their newly renovated and expanded store and they are looking forward to having our group for the evening.

I'm looking forward to seeing whoever is able to attend. Nothing like getting together for good food and yakking with fellow AT hikers. Well, except hiking?!

Yay! I finally live close enough to go to this shindig! Count me in -- it's already marked on my calendar, and I'm looking forward to it. really looking forward to meeting new Whiteblazers.. I'm only coming from Chattanooga, but I'd still like a place to stay that night, if possible.

Meanwhile, if anyone from the Chatt area is going, let me know and maybe we can carpool.

Thumbs up Always a Great Time!

I'll be there with Mrs. FishBone (great day-hiker, but doesn't do what bears do in the woods). I could lead a hike if anyone wants to hike at Long Hunter State Park (for variety and a view of Percy Priest Lake). Also, if there are any guitar, fiddle, or other acoustic players coming, we might could put a little bluegrass jam together (site: ???); my mandolin has been getting a bit lonely since the last jam.

I'm bumping up against travel limits. I'll be on the move a lot the next couple of months.

Maybe we could coordinate something like this in Chattanooga before the year is out. I've got the perfect place in mind.

Can't make it. I've got a second job that has me working on Saturdays and Sundays.

I can lead a hiking group at Radnor, or Warner, or even Longhunter. It depends on what people want more, climbs or views. There aren't many views at Warner, but lots of good climbs. Longhunters offers LOTS of good lake views, but very little climbing. Radnor? Some decent views and a couple of good climbs. And it's closest to REI and Ruby Tuesday.

But if most of our folks hiked Radnor last year, I'm perfectly happy with either of the other two.

Yes, I can be there on the weekend.

SWS may be willing to shuttle, but she'll still be in her cast until the first of March. I'm sure she'll be up for dinner. Not sure about the REI presentation.

If people spent less time being offended and more time actually living, we'd all be a whole lot happier!

The Southern Ruck is 2 hours closer than Nashville, you ought to come to that! You're actually closer than I am.

    Here are the directions...

Awww man. Valentine's Day. Here is a story to tell you why that is a bad day for me to do this. Just today, I called for my wife to come look at something on my computer in our home office. She yelled back, "I'm busy. If it has anything to do with hiking I'm going to kill you. I'm sick of hearing about hiking. " :-)

I'm lucky that she lets me get two long trips in a year and puts up with me spending 20 weekends at Radnor or Warner evey year. She definitely isn't going to attend nor am I going to ask her if I can attend a hiking get together on Valentines Day. :-)

I'd love to meet up with the local hiking crowd, but the marriage comes first on Valentine's day. Any other day and I'm there.

    See ya on the trail...

Bearpaw, there is no clamor one way or the other so far. My vote is for Radnor. It is closest and probably nicest (?) too. My second vote would be Longhunter, since I've never been there.

How about if you take the ball and run with it? Make an executive decision and announce (1) where the hike will be, (2) the meet-up/caravan place, and the (3) time to meet. I thought last year worked like a charm, frankly.

Okay? It'll help me if I'm not also in charge of the hike.

What a lame excuse! A sweetheart takes precedence over hikers on Valentine's Day???! ~wink~

Enjoy your trip to St. Louie and your sweetheart too! We'll all talk about you!
