I have to agree. It's a crying shame that you are almost better off letting yourself get killed that to deal with the consequences of defending yourself against an attack.

I feel most people are decent, The key word is "most". I feel for the poor woman who had to exoperience the exception. Hopefully the emotional scars will not ruin her for life!

I remember the Harold Fish case very well. Arizona law was changed due in big part because of the public outrage over this case .

There is a well-known AT persona that has said that women lie about assaults and being stalked in order "to sell books." He absolutely believed it never happens, women always lie about it, and in any case women just didn't belong on the trail. He even eliminated a womans forum on a previously popular website. I know women who have been stalked and we all know of true cases of assaults, some of them fatal.

Hopefully they will catch this guy. No one should every have to worry if they are going to be attacked by some idiot on the trail. With that said, I wouldn't count on everything being put out as completely accurate. Don't get me wrong, I not saying or suggesting she made anything up. From my own experience night hiking, at 10:00 pm night time it is extremely hard to see the actuate colors in the dark unless you have a very good light. I can't see her having one on while is she was sleeping.His light would be on as he is running away from her (thank heaven).



I just hope they catch this guy before he does anything like this again.

This thread has degenerated into a disgrace to Whiteblaze. What started out as a serious post of news of a fellow hiker reporting an assault on the trail (with an update) has now degraded into an endless series of "clever" comebacks and juvenile one-upmanships and one-liners.

Come on folks, is this really necessary?

If I knew how to cancel this thread I would.
