Just read this in Trail Journals:

Passing of Airferret
Hello fellow hikers, It is with a sorrowful note that I bring to you this news. On June 29th, Christian, aka Airferret or Ferret as many know him, died from gunshot wounds to the chest in his hometown of Detroit. His untimely death has been a shock to all who knew him. I know the time he spent hiking on the Appalachian Trail were like a dream come true for him; he loved every minute spent outdoors, whether on the AT, the Mojave, or overseas. I am trying to put together a website in his name, with a log sheet for people to post. The web address will be posted here as soon as I can design a website. Sincerely, Walter A.

Gosh, is this the Airferret who attempted a thru-hike this year????? I hope not, because my daughter Grass hiked with him early on. I may have even met him at the NOC when I picked her up. This is so sad.

Yes, this is the AirFerret that hiked this year. He and I hiked a section of Virginia together in May. His friend who posted this originally emailed me privately about it, asking to use a photo of mine on the website he is creating. Needless to say, I was devastated when I heard. Ferret was a wonderful guy and loved hiking the AT.
