    Question Point Barrow to Seattle

Why isn't there a trail system from Point Barrow (or Prudhoe Bay) to Seattle or Manning Park?

Hiking all of Alaska's zones sounds intriguing to me and can't believe that no one else has done it/ developed a trail system to do it.

I guess you could walk the Dalton then connect to other roads but what about getting off the road?

    Any ideas?

    Default Alaska trail system

A trail from Barrow to Seattle would be great, but I don't think we'll see it any time soon. I'd guess a trail like that would be well over 3,000 miles long so it would be a major undertaking and I just don't think there is a big enough interest to seriously pursue the idea.

To me, one of the advantages of hiking in Alaska is the lack of trails. With trails come people and their impact. How many places in the world can you still pull out your maps and "blaze your own trails" for hundreds of miles?

Good point. I was only thinking of logistics I guess. Say you have food for a week but then suddenly come across a swamp or something that requires days of deviation from a selected route.

Of course hiking through the AK interior probably would require some foods drops by plane no matter what.

Off hand, do you know a good source for maps of AK? Doesthe USGS have them? I haven't researched it a lot yet. Just had the idea, and even if I didn't do it, planning out the trip could be fun!
