    Default Parking at Rockfish Gap

I'm planning on starting at Rockfish gap next week and goung north. Where is a good place to park? Someone told me the old HoJo off of 64, but that just seems to be asking to be broken into. Can I leave my car at the park headquaters?

We will probably stage the other car around Simmons Gap. I'm assuming it will be ok.

I know there are other threads but can anyone comment on places to camp along this section and maybe water sources? We are probably just going to go from shelter to shelter, but no solid plans yet.

There's a pull off as for three or four cars as soon as you turn north heading toward the park.

My suggestion is to leave the car at Rockfish Information Center on the right as you pull off Rt.250 onto the entrance ramp .

Just walk inside and make them aware of your plans.

Update on parking at Rockfish Gap:

After doing some research on parking at that location and reading some disturbing information regarding break-ins I thought to post an update.

It seems the BEST place to leave your car for overnights or a week is still the Inn at Afton though it has been in some decline now in recent years.
The staff at the Inn is there 24/7 unlike the visitors center. There is also better lighting at the Inn as opposed to no lighting at the visitors center.
The parking is free and all the staff asks is that you contact them a few days in advance with a heads up on your plans.
When you arrive there , go to the front desk and fill out waiver form and they will instruct you where to park.

The parking on the Parkway/Skyline Drive away from Interstate 64 is considered relatively safe as LE Park Rangers patrol regularly.

Unfortunately yet again it appears a few low lifers can spoil for everyone what many of us enjoy doing .

Thanks for the info. I'll give the Inn a call.
