Thread: Coffee Talk

Actually the staff at the Cowboy is great. They have the requisite body art, of course, but at least they're reasonably light on the piercings as opposed to most collegiate coffee shops which seem to require their counter people to have six pounds of silver drilled in their heads before they're considered for hire. The staff at the Cowboy is actually quite normal-looking, as well as being friendly and efficient. Oh, and their staff has included thru-hikers, by the way.

I admit that I'm biased because I visit this place every day I'm in town, and have done so for around a decade. I've never noticed that the young people that work there as servers or barristas have ANY problems, and knowing the owner as I do, I'm pretty sure that folks with a history of problems or rudeness to customers wouldn't last very long.

That being said, I think it's a great place, and in fact, I think it serves the best cup of coffee on or near the A.T. In fact, I don't think any other place comes close.

For you coffee lovers out there, what are your thoughts? Where are the best places YOU have had coffee on the A.T., and for next year's coffee drinkers, what are the spots you'd reccommend that they visit?
i agree, dirt cowboy is head and shoulders better than any other coffee i remember from the a.t.

Also, Burlington, VT has a place called Uncommon Grounds (I know, Long Trail- but it's worth mentioning) that serves a wicked good pot of loose leaf tea. Never tried their coffee though.

Dirt Cowboy. Best coffee on the trail bar none. Friendly staff, great coffee. And I usually have a hangover in the morning when I'm in Hanover, so it's well located as well.

They could have a special blend "Hanover Hangover Havoc" or something like that.

With regards to the purportedly mandated NYC side-trip...I recently moved down South and left a blaze hidden somewhere on the Isle of Manhattan.

Mojo's here in Damascus has some mean coffee recipe's and the atmosphere is very comfortable.

Now if you are just an old fart like myself and you like to shoot the bull like I do then Cowboy's is your stop....

    Default Hot Springs Coffee

Next time you are in Hot Springs, along with Mtn City Roasters at the Outfitters, check out the EXCELLENT coffee at The Gallery at Iron Horse Station. The Appalachian Trail blend is a rich, dark roast and proceeds from every pot go to support the AT! The beans are roasted the day they are ordered and ground fresh for each pot. The espresso is equally delicious and comes in any form you like it--straight up, cappuccino, latte, etc.

Hikers WELCOME! (Gallery Mgr is a former thru-hiker...)

Seriously? Cool. Any hints as to where you hid it? Would be fun to find it.
    Don't take anything I say seriously... I certainly don't.
