Thumbs up State Park's Special Opportunities ~ September Staet Park Programs !

STATE PARK'S SPECIAL OPPORTUNITIES ~ SEPT. PARK PROGRAMS !

    Dear Appalachian Trail Museum Friends,

Lea Smith, Environmental Education Specialist for Pine Grove Furnace State Park
(the Museum's home), wants to pass along the following information about
    two unique,
    upcoming opportunities to our readers:

" Pine Grove Furnace is offering two unique opportunities
that are too good to keep from sharing.

    FIRST:
Have you been eager to give tent camping a try but have not set-up the tent
outside of your living room or backyard? After acquiring a tent, knowing how to get
started can be difficult. Here’s your chance to try camping with expert support provided!

Pine Grove Furnace Campout is being offered just for families who are new to camping,
but have not actually “camped” with their tent. So dust off that tent that you have been
storing and put it to good use. Please bring your tent and family members for a
great weekend of camping at Pine Grove Furnace State Park on September 6-7th.
A campfire with s’mores, stargazing, and waking up to the dawn chorus of singing birds
will complete the traditional camping experience.

Experienced staff will remain on site throughout the program.
Program fee is $10.00 per person and children 2 and under are free.
    Call
717-486-7174 to register by September 1st.

    SECOND:
    Calling all dog lovers!

Pine Grove Furnace State Park is celebrating AKC Responsible Dog Ownership Month
with Hound Hikes in the park. Please share the word so that dog lovers from all over
can participate in these opportunities to learn how to be a responsible dog owner
in a park while their tail-wagging companions exercise and socialize.

    for suggestions and ideas.

Here is a link to a radio interview Richard Judy did. Judy wrote the novel
Thru- An Appalachian Trail Love Story, which he gave to The Museum
to publish. with all proceeds contributed to The Museum!
The interview runs about 20 minutes with five about "Thru.".

    Smile A request

    Dear Appalachian Trail Museum Friends,

I have been asked to forward this to everyone in the hope that someone
out there can help us with the Gathering Memorial Wall:

“ We need a photo of John Shaffer that we can use for our memorial wall at the Gathering?
    Thanks.
P.S.. NOT his obit photo... We'd rather have one of him later on, perhaps at a trail-related function.
Thanks.... Bill O'Brien ~ [email protected]

See you at “THE GATHERING” !
~ I leave Wednesday from Savannah and will be off line for a week !
