    Default Protecting topos

I ordered some 7.5 minute maps from USGS and am wondering how you protect them when you're out hiking. Laminate?

Quad fold them to the 2 sections I want (one on each side) and then put them in a gallon freezer ziplock. Roll them up rather then fold them when in the bag.
I have used Maptech/Mapseal and Thompsons WS, but I prefer a plain old Ziplock.

i spray them, but that so i can clean my dinner off them. ZIP-Lock.
I'm so confused, I'm not sure if I lost my horse or found a rope.

I use mapseal if I expect to be able to use a particular topo map later; ziplock if it is expected that it might be a one-time use deal.

    HYOH, carry your own maps.

Did you spray with clear acrylic sealer?

Clear plastic WP page protectors with an overflap(small fold) bought at Office Max, Staples, or Office Depot. I store my maps in the side pocket of my pack with the fold on the bottom(keeps water off the pages even during a downpour and securely keeps the maps from falling out of the protective sheet). It makes my maps easily accessible while on the go.

When printing out maps I use a high quality laser printer which in my experience means they are less likely to bleed/run. WP paper is another option. Surprisingly, some public libraries have high end laser printers and if you catch them during off hours they often will restock the printers with your WP provided paper. I make high quality fine detailed 7.5 min topo color 7.5" X 11" copies at one of the libraries near where I live for 10 cents a copy. For any copies that don't come out the library doesn't charge me.
