    How much of an economic boom do they think this will be?

    Did they read the threads on this board asking if it is possible to hike end to end on $2000?, $1000?, $500?

    Tourism can be boost to a towns economy...when you are bring in folks willing to spend money on hotels and attractions.

    Bringing in folks who cram 7 people into a $35 per night motel room and then don't tip the cleaning staff isn't exactly going to revitalize a community. Nor is the longer line at the post office to pick up supplies and food purchased else where.

    While promoting local trails can help the economy it work better by attracted weekend and week long vactioners not thru hikers.
    Love people and use things; never the reverse.

    Mt. Katahdin would be a lot quicker to climb if its darn access trail didn't start all the way down in Georgia.

    Guess you didn't read the article. It never mentions thru-hikers.
