SOBO beginning in Maine on June 1
Is there anyone else that will be starting out in Maine in June? I am a student taking a year off, and have flexible starting dates.

I'm debating it; but to avoid the bugs I figured going NOBO from my leave off point of Kent, Conn. in June would be better. There are a lot of people who go SOBO in mid June and July 1st; but I would rather not wait. My semester ends then and I too am taking time off from school; burnt out.

I have considered SOBO since I live about six hours from Katahdin but will probably Go NOBO if everything comes together by next February, If not, Maine to Georgia starting in June would be the Fallback plan.

I was in the wilderness last year on May 31 for about 16 miles. It definately was buggy. Big Wilson was 3 feet deep. The trail appeared not to have been travelled.

June 1st SOBO for sure!
I am leaving on May 31st from Katahdin, so excited to get out there and hike and swim at the end of a long day and meet characters and eat thanksgiving pie upon arrival in georgia (maybe pie in georgia before thanksgiving, hopefully lots of pie before georgia)! So ready to go!
From the 2010 Hikers' Registry, it looks like there are also some others who are for sure or maybe leaving around then.
P.S. Not freaked out by the blackflies, think I am going to take precautions: "mosquito burka", Ben's, sleeping in my tent, keep moving as much as possible...

I will be starting June 1 doing a sobo thru-hike and wouldn't mind someone to hike with.
