    Default Pounding Mill Trail

Has anyone hiked this trail just north of Allen's Gap? What's it like? On the map it looks like it intersects with Hwy 209 but according to the signage just off the AT it says there is no hwy access.....

I tried to look for it one time but couldn't find it from its 208 side. The books I have for the area say its seldom used. I am wondering its probably no longer maintained by the forest service. The closest thing I could find was on Google Maps Street View. Around the approximately area where the topo maps say the trail head is, there is a small turnout. I am guessing you have to park there and climb down the embankment, and cross the creek to find it.

Or you might want to go up the Hickey Creek forest road to access Pounding Mill. There was a locked gate when I visited Hickey Creek.

Access from the top of the mountain is easy to find because there's signage. I guess the thing to do is just hike up there and see where it goes.

The Hickey Creek forest road is not hard to find off of NC 212. It is some of the best backcountry on the NC side of Camp Creek.
