actually there was a documentary on german TV about the AT long time ago. And as I'm interested in trekking / hiking i decided to backpack the AT; but only for 3 month due to time and money...

An update from my earlier post:

I haven't settled on a trail name yet. If one happens my way along the trail I will be happy to accept it. As for now I am tentatively calling myself 'Odd Duck'. I plan on flying into Atlanta on April 6th and hopefully be on the trail on the 7th. As for the approach trail, I was up there a few days ago and spent some time in Amacalola Falls State Park. The approach trail looks like it might be a bit on the strenuous side but if I'm going to hike 2000+ miles I better get used to it. The earlier the better, so yes I am doing the approach trail.
