    Default Twenty Mile Ranger station

Directions: Looks like you go by The Hike Inn for 4-5 miles and will go right by 20 Mile Ranger station.

    Sound right?

Yes, sounds right. Go slow, I recall it's easy to drive past. Nice place!

Half way between Fontana Dam and Deals Gap/The Dragon. It's where the road takes a sharp turn going around a cove in the lake.

Actually it is about 8 miles from the Hike Inn to Fontana, and then Twentymile is about 6 more miles past Fontana Village - so about 14.5 miles total from the Hike Inn to Twentymile.

Don't expect anything from the station. Seems it's used more as an occasional base of operations than a public station. The facilities are sparse.
No man should go through life without once experiencing healthy even bored solitude in the wilderness, finding himself depending solely on himself and thereby learning his true and hidden strength.

I'm just looking for a good spot to get dropped off and get on the BMT.

From what I understand I can get a backcountry permit there too.

Yes, you can do this. Hooch and I got our permit for 3 days on the BMT back in November.
If people spent less time being offended and more time actually living, we'd all be a whole lot happier!

Yes, you can permit from there. There is a phone on the outside of the station that can only call park numbers, but that includes back-country reservations office.
