    Default Sourcing Windscreen Material?

Anyone ever found a good source for windscreen material similar to the stuff MSR sells?

You know it's more pliable than roof flashing or even oven liners.

I've been told the stuff is called "pure metal tooling foil" like the stuff sold HERE by dickblick.com

    Anyone?

Not the same stuff camper10469. The MSR material is a whole lot more pliable. Pliable like a thin sheet of lead or something very similar.

I use the very cheap and thin cookie pan foils that they sell at supermarkets for $1. Usually get 2 or 3 in the packet. Easy to cut down to what you need and almost indestructible. Light as hell as well

Attic foil? I have a bunch of that stuff left over...maybe I should open up a windscreen material shop to sell my leftover material?

Zelph, is it packaged under the same name (metal tooling foil) or called something else at Hobby Lobby?

Usually the clerks there give you that "zombie" look when you start asking specific questions....

    Cheers!

Same stuff, same gage. I use it for my Whisperlite as a replacement for my old one. After using a year it will feel like the same lead as it gets crinkled enough from folding n refolding.

BTW MSR's stuff is crimped, or rather pleated, so it seems different but it's not.

The best windscreen I've used (and still use) is the windscreen that came with my Optima +, I now use that screen with my akly stove, works wonderful, sturdy (but light), compacts well and has a opening for your pot handle, etc. Comes recommended. I'm sure you could just buy the windscreen from them for a few dollars.

Try asking for embossing foil at hobby lobby.

I'll be offering 6" X 22" corrugated windcreens at zelphs-stoveworks, soon. Next week for sure. Working on a new alcohol stove and also a wood burner. I like DIY projects

That's it... the comercial catering pans are heavier gage in larger sheets, same stuff MSR includes with their stoves.

How about titanium? I got mine at Backpacking Light, but they're out of it right now. It rolls up to the size of a pencil stub and is secured by two tiny paper clips. Here's something similar at Titanium Goat:

I use a piece of aluminum foil folded in half width wise and it's been holding up good, I imagine it will last about 3 weeks at a time, but will replace as I go. It's been working great with my cat food can stove even on windy nights, when I prop a rock behind it to keep it from blowing away.

I just use rocks and stack around the stove ... Never had a problem with this method. If it was so windy that rocks wouldn't work, my back up plan would be to use my ccf pad. I just wouldn't hold it too close to the stove.
