All I know is, Angus has a larger & cleaner vocabulary then some of our folks on WB. He can express himself with more maturity at a yr. old.

Ha ha! I was thinking the same things about my Holly & Jolly! They are only a year old, but definitely behave themselves a lot better than some folks around here. Holly understands way too many words...Jolly tends to let her translate. Holly also has a pretty clean mouth, but I think Jolly swears like a trucker.

Peter Dog understands full sentences. Yes, I know it is crazy, but it is true.

He seems to pick up on pretty much whatever I expect him to. I was on a road trip yesterday, and we stopped at a rest stop. He trained himself to 'voice commands' and rarely needs a leash except to comply with social conventions. We got out of the van, and he followed me at the heal without my asking. We got to the row of bushes, and I told him not to go into the street... he walked forward and sniffed around for a bit. He watched another dog across the parking lot. He was tempted to go over there.

He shot me a look, turned around and sniffed the bush next to him. He remembered and followed what I had asked him to do.

Yea, I know it is crazy.. but for 11 years he has demonstrated that he knows what I am talking about (which is no small thing!)

I think dogs understand everything you say to them, they just choose which ones they pay attention too just like people...

    Default Ellie

I have to agree, Ellie understood everything I said.. Regardless of my tone. I rarely ever used her leash!! She never wanted to be far from my side and hung on my every word. Some dogs are just that, dogs and some are much more. I have since brought home a sweet male boxer and he is more of a dog.. HaHa.. He loves to chase anything that moves and will break a leg to catch a squirrel. He's done an amazing job mending my broken heart with his carefree love of the simplest things in life!

    hello panzer!
and let me tell you all. your in for two things. a fun treet. and the worlds most accurate pionting out finger. hes in guinness book of world records for pointing out the most stuff. panzer actually has pointer finger. its like shooters finger but ends worse.each night as he crosses his hands on his chest and slips off to lullaby land, his massive pointing finger continues its work in dreamland. soon rapid eye movement combines with the occasional pointing finger twitch to let the observer know panzers dreaming dreams of pointing out stuff. kinda like dogs only ever dream of running.
Ya Matty get spell check please...

In the natural world, a canine has to evolve in a dynamic world, and recognize the cues that lead to survival. It is no different with domesticated breeds, even though there may not be an intrinsic survival goal; they seem happy enough to perform in order to please the alpha member to ensure their importance within the pack.
Sign language is very important to any dog.... they even look for facial stuff, who would have thought.

Dogs are excellent judges of character, this fact goes a long way toward explaining why some people don't like being around them.

Border Collies mostly. My buddy's rescue collie is better at LNT, Navigation and Trail Magic than most hikers I've met.

Words that raise the ears: eat, food, go, woods, hike, want some...actaully had an airadale trained to say "want some".
    "Bath"....means hide & seek.

WOO, I have noticed that 'Woof' in Ct sounds a little different than 'woof' in Montana, I wonder if there is some cultural difference that I'm not picking up on!?

Sorry, my first dog thread post...........The resistance was futile!
