Thread: Down Bag Poll

    Default Down Bag Poll

What kind of sleeping bag do you have and how much did it cost?

    Eureka Casper (women's) 15F 2lb 11oz synthetic $90

Kept me warm down to 20F, haven't tried it lower than that. I'd like to get a Montbell SS UL #3, when funds allow.

I have a Feathered Friends Great Auk which I bought in 1991 for $260.00, if I remember correctly (good down to 5 degrees). I bought a Rock Wren at the same time for a little less (good to 25 or so). Both had the higher quality fill and 2 oz. extra down.
More recently I bought a Golite Feather-Lite (discontinued) zipperless bag to slide over my hammock. That cost somewhere around $160 on sale. That one keeps me warm down to the high 20s, but it's rated at 40.
The only bag I have which is currently available (well, the Feathered Friend bags are, but not at the same prices!) is the Montbell ULAP down liner which is a summer bag (50 degrees and up). The design has been changed slightly, but it's very similar. Prices vary.

I like the 2lb 12oz luxurylite V bags. It's the only one I won't part with. I've bought one of everything and I'm sure the proclaimed 900 90/10 bags are lighter but I don't see paying double the price for marginal warmth.

Western Mountaineering Ultralight - 375 (but I lucked out and got it for 250. It was used as the display model in a store).
I love it. It's light and toasty. I hope it will last 10 years.

I've got everything from a 1970s Herter's down bag, to a few Luxurylite underfilled bags (paid $39, added down myself), to a Western Mountaineering Megalite I got new for $205. Had a few high end TNF and Marmot bags, but nothing compares to WM.

Western Mountaineering Ultralite 20. As mentioned above, I couldn't ask for a better bag. Paid $400 (long version) but don't regret it.

Also have a hammock gear summer burrow quilt arriving tomorrow which I intend to use for summer trips. Paid $200.

WM Megalite, 30F, around $350 a while back.
WM Antelope, 5F, $450 but I got it on a 40% off sale for around $275. Score!

Dragonfly has a Montbell #3 and a #0, and Lilac has an REI Sub Kilo.

two sleeping bags, a 15 degree and 40 degree. Model/type I don't recall, both made by Marmot and I'm very satisfied with them. A bit roomier than some of the other bags I considered and meet or exceed the assigned temp. ratings.
