Default 900 acres near AT protected

Some good news. The feds fund the acquisition of 900 acres by the Trust For Public Land near the AT. (Hopefully congress won't mess with it.)

Very good news. Looking at the projects slated for this year's proposed $80 million to protect lands, $2 million goes to Skiff, and $5 million to pay for AMC's 37,000 acre Katahdin Iron Works purchase. Looking at the other forty-something projects, the AT may benefit from some of them. Anyone know about any of these?

VT Green Mountain Wildlife Corridor 350,000
    NJ Sparta Mountain South 1,800,000
    WV Potomac River Hills 1,800,000
    MA Quabbin Corridor Connection 3,700,000
ME Machias River Project – Phase II 2,500,000
    NH Rossview 2,600,000
    NH Willard Pond 550,000
    MD Broad Creek 1,500,000

    Take Care,

    Tim

I posted some of this news the other day:
    http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/showthread.php?t=7458

    $5M for Maine Woods Initiative
The FY 2006 Whitehouse budget includes $5 Million from the USDA Forestry Legacy Program to fund the 37,000 acre Katahdin Ironworks project. The KIW project is a key component of the AMC's Maine Woods Initiative.
Note that these monies are just promises in a projected partial budget, and that we have little funds available to pay for much of anything in that budget.
