    Default Grafton Loop Trail Maine

Lookin at doing this loop Halloween Weekend. Will be watching the weather carefully and will do something different if it looks like bad weather. I understand the weather issue possibility for that area and have the gear to do it, Im looking at logistics of the trail.
Have heard amazing things about this trail. The Speck-Baldpate section is so appealing to me as I remember it fondly from my thru. Anyway, just wanted to get some additional from others about the roads going in on 26. I also found the Maine Mahoosucs map on the AMC site and wanted to know if it has the whole Loop trail on it. Anyway, any info is great, thanks

Be careful with the maps. Mine only has the northern half on it, but some do have the whole loop.

Any idea of any maps that have the whole thing?

I found a map online and ordered the Mahoosucs map from the AMC. The trail looks awesome. Im going out for 3.5 days and thing that I will be able to go to Speck for a visit at the top of the arm. Speck Pond is so amazing and cant wait to go back. Will backtrack down and jump on the Grafton Loop Trail and probably shoot for Slide Mtn Camp or Sargent Brook Campsite. The next day will probably head to Stewart Campsite. Then the next day head to East Baldpate (depending on the weather) and if I can go over Baldpate in good weather will try to get to Baldpate Lean To. That leaves a short trip out on Sunday so I can drive home. I will probably adjust this a little based on the weather. It woul dbe so awesome if I just have all 4 days in the woods to be sunny and clear but know that may be unlikely. Ill settle for just reasonable Maine weather in october. Cannot wait to do this trail If the weather fails, I may put it off til Spring.

The east, Baldpate, side of the loop is pretty nice. Rugged, but not too hard. I did it a few years ago about this time of year (our 3 best days of fall hike), but it only took two days, one overnight. If doing the full loop, deciding which way to go over Old Speck is the problem. I kinda hate going up or down that mountain! I guess I'd rather go up it, even though it is a very long up.

Hope the weather is good for you. Too bad you can't go this coming weekend, the weather is looking nice and there might even be some color left.
