WTB Dana Design Exterior Frame Backpack

My two sons and I are going to the Philmont Scout Reservation in August 2012 and we need to upgrade our current packs. We want to stay with an exterior frame, and from what I've read, DD is about the best external frame pack there is. We don't have a preference at this time (longbed, shortbed, T1 etc.), just want something dependable. As for sizes - we are three different body dimensions with torsos that measure from 15" to 21" and waists measuring from 34" to 38" so we'll have to just see what's out there that may work for us.

I don't honestly think DD is that much better a pack than Kelty. The old Tiogas are great external frame packs.

Possibly. I've never owned either. Two things that draw me to the DD are 1. those magic wands, and 2. the hip belt padding, strap material and buckle I assume is far superior to anything Kelty ever put out.

One up for sale on the selling used gear forum. I have a DD pack as well as a Mystery Ranch, they are great load haulers with a suspention second to none. Good luck with it.

i own a dana designs shortbed i haven;t put into use yet, it is very comfortable! but as someone said don't under estimate the kelty. i have 9,000 miles on the A.T. using kelty's
a 50th year anniversary pack and a couple kelty super tiogas that worked extremly well. i hope you find a good pack for your journeys

Well I've purchased 4 DD's already. A Longbed, a Terraframe and 2 T1's. But there's a problem. They're all large frames and I need one of them to be a medium. Also, they all have large straps and hip belts. Anyone w/ a medium pack and/or belt/yolk want to swap me for a large pack and/or belt/yolk?
