    Default Map discontinued?

I was at the AT.org store and saw a listing for alternative maps (National Geo maps). There was a note that said:

"For the time being, the Blacksburg/New River Valley could substitute for our discontinued Map O (Southwest Virginia-Wythe District)."

Anybody know why that map was discontinued? Is it misleading or inaccurate? Wouldn't want to use it if it's going to lead me into a pack of wild ligers or something!

Of course, you could ask the ATC, but my guess is that the old map is seriously out-of-date due to relocations, errors, etc., and they are working on an update. I've run into that. Same with guidebooks. The trail corridor is simply too organic for any printed material to stay up to date; maps and guidebooks are "wrong" as soon as they are printed. Only question is when to do new ones, and that's a matter of experience and judgment (and maybe budget).
